KPCN-LP 96.3FM Woodburn, OR First official Broadcast Launch

Around 6 p.m. Erubiel II Valladares went up in stage with loud steps and yelled “its coming, its coming” and everybody turned to looked and see what the whole fuss was about!! Once we got the audience’s attention the hosts Hozkar Morales and Marlen Torres said a revolution has begun, these were the first words that Radio Movimento “La Voz del Pueblo” ( Movement Radio “The Voice of the People”) started to broadcast.

Finally after several years of waiting and hard work, PCUN has realized a long time dream by being the first union in Oregon to have their own radio station on FM.

Approximately 100 people from the community participated in the contest we had for the naming of the radio station. The KPCN-LP programming committee and the PCUN board of directors came up with an agreement on the most appropriate name that the Latino community could identify themselves with….. Radio Movimiento “La Voz del Pueblo.” As we can read, the name is about mobilizing and being the people’s voice. KPCN-LP 96.3 FM’s goal is to bring an evolution in the community’s consciousness. The two fortunate young ladies who won the contest are Auremi Romero and Lupe Alvarez. This name was uncovered the day of the inauguration of the radio station on November 20, 2006.

More than 150 people attended the radio station inauguration including some PCUN members, people from the community, sister organizations, reporters and our guest of honor Anthony Chavez Director of Radio Campesina, also known as Cesar Chavez son. PCUN was also fortunate to present the Woodburn High school Mariachi, and recognize the “Padrinos,” or godparents, who donated $250.00 or more and the volunteers that helped since the begining to make November 20 possible.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank Radio Bilingüe from Fresno, CA since they provided PCUN with the satellite so we could air Linea Abierta (Open line) and the Noticias (News). Soon we can be streaming by Internet (currently under construction).

We would like to cordiality invite you to come to the radio station and to pick up a bumper sticker, a sign for your house to put on your yard or in the window of your apartment. Tune in to 96.3 FM Radio Movimiento “La Voz del Pueblo” and give us your comments, suggestions and opinions about the programmers and the times you will like to listen to them. We also have an email address where you can write us at radiomovimiento@pcun.org or call us at (503) 981-7286.
