Come work with us!

PCUN has a variety of internships available throughout the year. They can be full- or part-time, and several can be combined to provide a broader experience. For full-time internships we generally offer room, board and a stipend of $100 a month. Many students are also able to obtain academic credit and/or scholarships.

· Research: These internships offer opportunities to sharpen research skills and put them to use organizing farmworkers and farmworker supporters. Tasks include: reviewing trade journals, interviewing industry representatives, and conducting internet searches. Recent researchers have produced reports on topics ranging from Oregon's agricultural industry to labor law and legislation. These positions last a semester or year-round. The work may take place at other locations than the PCUN office, and does not require fluency in Spanish.

· Archives: PCUN’s Archives project needs interns for various tasks, including cataloguing photos, videotapes, posters, and books from over 25 years of farmworker movement history. Spanish is not required.

· Service Center: The Service Center for Farmworkers provides social services, translations and legal referrals for members of the union. We are also accredited to provide immigration law services. This position requires excellent Spanish and English communication skills. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve the farmworker community and understand the reality of people’s lives.

· Technology/graphic design: PCUN needs help updating our website, maintaining general email lists, and reworking campaign literature. Spanish is not required.

· Field organizing: Every summer, PCUN has opportunities for interns to learn field organizing skills by accompanying and supporting staff field organizers. Tasks include holding house visits with workers, distributing leaflets with union information, and talking to workers in the fields during the harvest. Excellent Spanish skills are necessary for these positions. Interns are needed from early May until late August or September, and are encouraged to apply early in the spring.

Be aware that these opportunities vary depending on our current campaigns and may not be available at all times. Intern candidates are encouraged to contact PCUN at least 4 months before the date they wish to begin their internship.

Volunteer opportunities at PCUN vary according to your skills, schedule and interests. They include assisting with mailings, phone banking, publicity drives, building maintenance, security at events and marches, sign-making, and much more. Contact PCUN for information on upcoming volunteer opportunities.
